Poplarville Hornets throw a shutout in 31-0 win
The Poplarville Hornets got a 31-0 win on the road against Forrest County AHS to move their overall record to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in region play. The Hornets' defense posted their second shutout of the season. Austin Bolton took off on a 51 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead. The Hornets extended their lead on an Aggies' special teams miscue when they snapped the ball over their punter's head out the back of the end zone, resulting in a safety to push the lead to 9-0. Roosevelt Raine added a 1 yard touchdown run to give Poplarville a 17-0 lead before halftime.
The Hornet defense continued its superb play in the second half in posting the shutout.
Junior Antonio Barnes added two touchdowns in the second half, one through the air to Canaan Ray and the other on a bootleg run. Barnes completed 4 of 6 passes for 88 yards.
Bolton ended the night with 18 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown. Poplarville will be on the road next week against region opponent Sumrall.
