Maroon Tide faces another challenge at Long Beach

After pulling out a tough 42-35 road win last week against Stone, Picayune will face another talented Region 4-5A opponent when the Maroon Tide tees it up at Long Beach on Friday inside Lumpkin Stadium.

The Bearcats (5-2, 2-1) lost at home last week to Wayne County 48-42 in overtime. Long Beach led 28-14 in the third quarter, but three costly turnovers allowed Wayne County to rally for a 35-28 lead. The Bearcats scored the next fourteen points to lead 42-35 with just over four minutes left in the game, but Wayne County tied the game with :36 left in regulation and won it in overtime by scoring after Long Beach failed to score on its first possession.

The Bearcats are led by quarterback Cade Crosby (6-0, 175, Soph) who has completed 94 of 150 attempts for 1,175 yards with 8 TDs and ran for 396 yards and 8 TDs. Running back Dennis Andrews (5-11,215, Jr.) has rushed for 1,071 yards on 141 carries with 15 TDs. Kai Vancourt (5-9,150,Jr.) and Charlie Wescovich (5-7,160,Sr.) have each caught 25 passes.

In the win over Stone, Picayune (6-1, 3-0) relied on the running of tailback Shaun Anderson (5-7,165,Sr.) who had 404 yards on 19 carries with 5 TDs that pushed his season totals to 146 rushes for 1,239 yards and 14 TDs.
