Picayune Police Department captures two Louisiana escapees
Picayune Police Department captured two suspects who escaped from the St Mary’s Parish Louisiana Sheriff’s Department last week.
On Sunday, June 3, 2018, a press release from the St. Mary Parish Louisiana Sheriff's Office stated that four inmates had escaped from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. A BOLO (Be On The Lookout) was issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies. A call notification system was activated and the inmates were entered into the National Crime Information Center, according to the press release.
According to Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri, on Monday, June 4th at approximately 6:30am, Picayune Police received information that two escapees were walking along Interstate 59 northbound around exit 10. When patrol officers arrived, they apprehended the two suspects, and through a check with NCIC, it was discovered that the two suspects, identified as 28-year-old Jamie Scarbrough and 18-year-old Tanner Scarbrough, were wanted for aggravated escape from St Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Department.
After being transported to the Criminal Justice Center where they were booked and incarcerated on a hold from St Mary’s Parish. The Scarbroughs went before a judge, waived extradition, and were picked up by St. Mary’s Parish on Thursday.
The other two escapees were captured in Berwick and Morgan City by local authorities in St Mary’s Parish.
During the course of an internal affairs investigation by St Mary’s Parish into the facts surrounding the escapees, it was determined that three deputies did follow proper security protocol as required, and those deputies are no longer employed by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to St Mary’s Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum.
