The Stolen Motorized Scooter Has Been Returned – Suspects Arrested
Thursday evening, Karen Chetta Vaughter and William Roger Vaughter III, turned themselves into Slidell Police, and returned the stolen motorized scooter. The Vaughter’s were booked into the Slidell City Jail with one count of Theft Over $1000.
The duo told investigators their intention was to return the scooter, but simply forgot. Detectives have evidence that proves otherwise.
The victim, a 75-year-old military veteran, took back possession of his motorized scooter and was very grateful. Slidell Police Department wants to thank the Slidell residents, Facebook followers, Crimestoppers, and the local news media with helping us solve this case.
The 75-year-old victim went shopping at Walmart (39142 Natchez Drive) on November 15th around 5:00 p.m., and inadvertently left behind his cell phone and motorized scooter in the parking lot. After returning home, the military veteran realized he left his belongings in the parking lot and quickly returned to the store. It was discovered shortly thereafter that someone had stolen both his scooter and cell phone.
After obtaining the surveillance video from the store, it was discovered that a male and female spotted the scooter in the parking lot, and initially did the right thing. The man and woman brought the scooter inside of the store and dropped the property off at the customer service department. The couple shopped, purchased several items, and left the store.
In a strange turn of events, the couple returned and decided to steal the scooter and cell phone. The duo was observed on the surveillance footage leaving the store with the scooter, and loading it into the back their vehicle.
