Bill Edwards recognized as MS Main Street Hometown Hero
Mr. Bill Edwards was recognized at last night's (Tuesday July 2, 2019) Picayune City Council Meeting as a MS Main Street Hometown Hero Award for his service and dedication to the efforts of the organization.
Edwards has been very instrumental in revitalizing downtown Picayune and he has also been very diligent in preserving 30 historic homes in the Picayune area. He was a founding member of Picayune Main Street, Inc. in 1996 and has been Board President for 16 years. His title is now Emeritus.
Edwards served on the Picayune Planning Commission, as a Picayune Chamber Board member, and as Chamber President twice. He also served as President of Pearl River County Tourism Committee. He was Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1999 and was elected as the first King of the Krewe of Roses. He has served on the Crosby Arboretum Board and Partners for Stennis.
His professional resume’ includes his role as an Aerospace Engineer at Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX, and as a Project Manager at Marshall Space Center, Huntsville, AL. He later retired from NASA at Stennis Space Center in 1988.
After retiring, Mr. Bill and his wife, Evelyn opened The Glass Porch in Historic Downtown Picayune MS and own many properties in Downtown Picayune and Pearl River County.
Mr. Edwards’ dedication and love for our community have earned him the title HOMETOWN HERO.
