Pearl River falls to Panola College
POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River couldn’t rally past visiting Panola College on Saturday, falling 3-0 (12-25, 12-25, 12-25). The loss was PRCC’s second in as many days to the Fillies at Shivers Gymnasium.
Madison Smith (Madison; Germantown) pulled PRCC (5-7 overall) within three, 9-6, with a kill just inside the back line. The Fillies (12-3) earned six of the next seven points before Isabella Thoennes (Kiln; Hancock) got PRCC back on the scoreboard with a kill off of a Maleah Austin (Diamondhead; Hancock) quick set.
Panola went on to claim the first set 25-12.
Leah Draine (Mobile, Ala.; Mattie T. Blount) tied the second set 1-1 with an early kill. Trailing 4-3 Thoennes netted another kill off of a Panola College double block. The Fillies reeled off six straight to force a PRCC timeout down 10-3. The Wildcats had several runs later in the set before ultimately falling 25-12.
The two squads traded points early in the third set before the Fillies landed seven straight to go ahead 13-4. PRCC was unable to recover, falling 25-12.
