Pearl River Sheriff's Office intercepts drug package in mail

Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison said that Investigators with the Pearl River County Sheriff's Office (PRCSO) intercepted a package that was being mailed that contain cocaine and marijuana.

During the investigation of the package, PRCSO Investigators were able to determine that Yamajah Curry, age 25, of 313 North Beech Street in Picayune, and Lashunda Dawson, age 31, of 1223 Kingsway Drive, Apt A-2, Picayune, mailed the package on October 2, 2019, and they both knew of the illegal contents of the package. Sheriff Allison said the package was being sent to Byron Certain in Quitman, MS.

An online records check revealed that Certain, age 21, of 505 Fifth Street, Picayune, was staying in Quitman and he was wanted by the Picayune Police Department for burglary. Investigators contacted the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department who were able to apprehend Certain at the address the package was to be mailed to. Certain was transported back to Picayune to face his outstanding warrants according to Sheriff Allison.

One day later, on October 3, 2019, arrest warrants were issued for Dawson and Currie and they were located at 1223 Kingsway Drive, Apt A-2, Picayune. Sheriff Allison stated that both were charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana.

Investigators, while executing the same search warrant for 1223 Kingsway Drive, Apt A-2, Picayune, came in contact with Carl Jenkins, age 45, at the property and Jenkins was detained. During the search of the property, Sheriff Allison stated that a trafficking amount of cocaine, various pharmaceuticals packaged for sale, digital scales, plastic baggies, a firearm, and U.S. currency was found in the apartment.

Sheriff Allison said Jenkins began to complain about medical problems, at which time, AAA Ambulance was called to administer aid to Jenkins. He was transported to a local hospital to seek medical attention.

Later, Sheriff Allison said Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Jenkins for Trafficking Cocaine, several counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute based on the numerous pharmaceuticals located in the residence and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
