Pearl River falls on the road to Southwest

SUMMIT, Miss. — The Pearl River women’s soccer team couldn’t cash in on late chances on Friday falling on the road to Southwest, 2-1.

Southwest (3-2 overall; 2-0 MACCC) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. After a successful dribble into the box, a well-placed shot gave them an early 1-0 advantage.

Pearl River (2-2-1; 2-1-1) was able to even the score just one minute into the second half of the contest. Aubrie Edwards (Biloxi) was fouled and earned a penalty kick. She stepped up to the ball and placed a shot right into the bottom right corner of the net to make the score 1-1.

The Wildcats created several chances down the stretch but were unable to put any more goals on the board.

The Bears grabbed their final goal in the 76th minute, and that was all that they needed to win the game, 2-1.
