FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A private use pesticide applicators certification is necessary to purchase, transport, and apply restricted use agricultural pesticides. This certification is good for 5 years. A private applicator is defined by law as one who uses or supervises the use of restricted-use pesticides to produce an agricultural commodity on property owned or rented by said person or their employer or on the property of another person with whom agreement has been worked to trade services.

This certification is required by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act; and the training meets state requirements approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Bureau of Plant Industry issues the certification.

If you are a current applicator, you should check the expiration date on your card. If your card has expired or will expire in the next month, you may want to consider getting it renewed. To become a certified applicator for the first time or to become re-certified consists of successful completion of a private use pesticide training session.

A training has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Pearl River County Administration Building Auditorium located in Poplarville, Mississippi. The Administration Building is located on the left off Highway 11 north of Pearl River

Community College at 417 Highway 11 North. There is a $20 fee for this training to cover the cost of materials. This fee must be paid by check or money order made payable to MSU. If you plan to attend, you must call and pre-register with the MSU Extension Service - Pearl River County Office at 601-403-2280 by Wednesday, February 26, 2020, by 5:00 p.m.
