Picayune falls at D’Iberville 27-13

D’Iberville- D’Iberville upended the Picayune Maroon Tide 27-13 in a matchup of two unbeatens at Buddy Singleton Field.
Picayune drew first blood on its second possession when the Maroon Tide got the ball at its own 46 on an interception by Naquis Ratcliff. Donte Dowdell (pictured below) scored on a 4 yard run on the 12th play of the drive and Morgan Craft booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 2:50 left in the quarter.
The Warriors responded with a 9 play drive covering 52 yards with Lance Garlotte getting the touchdown on a 4 yard run with 10:15 left in the second quarter.
Picayune recovered the second half kickoff at the D’Iberville 30 after it bounced through the hands of a Warrior return man. But on the second play after the fumble recovery, Picayune fumbled and Caleb Williams picked up the ball and was eventually tackled at the Picayune 22.
Drey Lenoir scored four plays later on an 11 yard run and the point after made it 14-7 with 9:14 left in the third quarter.
Picayune responded after the kickoff with a 27 yard touchdown run by Dowdell on the 8th play of the possession. The point after attempt was wide left and the score was 14-13 with 5:03 left in the quarter.
D’Iberville answered with a touchdown on its possession after the Picayune kickoff. Lenoir scored from 47 yards outs with 2:14 left in the quarter, but missed the point after and led 20-13.
Picayune turned the ball over on downs at the Warrior 48 on its next possession.
Nine plays later, Garlotte threw a 7 yard touchdown to Kole Davis to close out the scoring with 5:52 left in the game.
Donte Dowdell lead the Maroon Tide with 141 yards on 15 carries. Lenoir had 144 yards on 16 carries.
Picayune (3-1) opens region play on Friday hosting Pearl River Central at Lee-Triplett Stadium.
