Picayune sinks Admirals 21-7

Picayune- The Picayune Maroon Tide rode it’s defense early and then tacked on two touchdowns in the second half to beat the Gulfport Admirals 21-7 at Lee-Triplett Stadium.
After a scoreless first quarter that consisted of three Admiral punts and the Maroon Tide unable to convert a fourth down and also throwing an interception,
Picayune was able to get on the scoreboard with a 7 play 64 yard drive with Donte Dowdell scoring on a 3 yard run with 6:12 left in the second quarter.
The teams traded punts to start the third quarter.
On Picayune’s second possession, “Quick” Chris Davis broke free on a 32 yard touchdown with 4:21 to play in the quarter.
Davis added another score, this time from 37 yards out to cap off a 9 play 94 yard drive with 6:19 left in the game.
Morgan Craft kicked all three extra points for the Maroon Tide (3-0).
The Admiral scored on a 10 yard run by Jacob Palazzo with 3:49 left.
Dowdell finished with 115 yards on 28 carries while Davis had 6 rushes for 117 yards.
Picayune's defense held Gulfport to 38 yards rushing on 19 attempts.

“I’m proud of them. We actually played a full forty-eight minutes of football. That was a really good team we beat tonight. I can’t say enough about our defense. I’ve said we would lean on them a lot and we did tonight. Our offense got better as the game went on and were able to put two scores on the scoreboard,”
Picayune will host D’Iberville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
